Clinton CC Men's Basketball Closes Home Slate with Back-to-Back Wins, Upsets No. 15 Mohawk Valley CC
PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton Community College Cougars wrapped up the home portion of their season this week with back‑to‑back victories, capped by an overtime upset of nationally ranked No. 15 Mohawk Valley Community College on Thursday night.
On Wednesday evening, the Cougars honored their three sophomores, No. 2 Harvey Merrill III, No. 12 Jaymison Conrad and No. 4 Jeffrey Collins Weeks III, prior to tipoff against SUNY Canton JV. The trio delivered standout performances to lead Clinton to a 96–80 victory.
Merrill finished with 11 points, Conrad added 13 and Weeks led the way with 35 points and 16 rebounds.
Thursday night brought even more excitement as the Cougars hosted No. 15 Mohawk Valley in their final home game of the season.
Clinton built a 14‑point halftime lead, but Mohawk Valley rallied to go up one with 5:12 remaining. Weeks put the Cougars back ahead by four with two minutes left before the Hawks tied it with 20 seconds to go. Clinton's final shot missed, sending the game to overtime tied at 74.
In overtime, Weeks seized control, scoring the first 10 points to put Clinton up by 10 with 2:45 left. Mohawk Valley responded with late 3‑pointers and key and‑one conversions, but the Cougars held on to complete the upset.
Weeks led all scorers with 36 points and 16 rebounds.
Anthony Thomas Jr. delivered a dominant performance inside with 21 points and 19 rebounds, while Calvin Rodriguez added 17 points to help secure the 90–86 victory.
Head Men's Basketball Coach Neil Epstein said the team's resilience defined the week.
"I'm incredibly proud of how our student-athletes competed in these last two home games," Epstein said. "They showed grit, composure and belief in each other. Winning against a nationally ranked program in overtime says a lot about their growth as players this season."
The Cougars go on the road next to play their final game of the regular season against North Country Community College on Saturday, Feb. 21.
